TinyMCE popup permission denied window

Hits 18437 | Created 2011-09-02 | Modified 2011-09-02

In Tiny MCE certain pages were throwing errors when I clicked on the hyperlink option. The pop up window would either work, or just appear blank.

The title of the page was {#advanced_dlg.link_title} and it just showed up blank (with a javascript error if you had debugging turned on). But this worked on some pages, not on others.

The Javascript error was Permission Denied in line 5 of tinymce/tiny_mce_popup.js

Many people on the net suggested adding

document.domain = 'mydomain.com';

To any one of a number of places (tiny_mce_popup.js, tiny_mce.js, tiny_mce_config_basic.js etc)

This didn't work for me. Others suggested various things like .htaccess files causing problems.

Generally everyone agreed that it was normally a cross-domain issue - calling the editor and it's includes from different domains.

Can't be me, I thought, everything was on one domain.

What was my issue? After many hours of hair-pulling?

On one page:

<!-- TinyMCE -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="/tiny_mce/tiny_mce.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="/tiny_mce/tiny_mce_config_basic.js"></script>
<!-- /TinyMCE -->

And this on the other that didn't work:

<!-- TinyMCE -->
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.wrongdomain.com/tiny_mce/tiny_mce.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.wrongdomain.com/tiny_mce/tiny_mce_config_basic.js"></script>
<!-- /TinyMCE -->

As I had copied the code from a previous installation and forgotten to change it on a couple of pages! So it was a cross-domain issue after all!

Try Google search for 'tinymce document.domain permission' for more info on other solutions.

Thank you - after 3 hours of searhcing - you were the one that helped - in my case, I was declaring the "correct" URL in the site - but my tinymce installation was running under https and I hadn't declared it as such !! Adding that all important "s" made it work :-)
