All about the year 2000

Welcome to year 2000. A little travel, some work. Not much writing.

My new year 1999, the party of the century, was spent doing a favour for Caro by working in Vito's Wine Bar in Antigua, Guatemala. A barman of some experience, it wasn't too bad, but I confess I took the piss just a little and drank stupid amounts of various green drinks all night.

At one point:

Manager: You don't seem to be making a note of every drink you make

Me (looking at her coldly): Look, it's 10pm, new years eve 1999, it's busy and I'm doing a good job. If you want to find another barman tonight, go ahead.

She shut up and I drank steadily more until the fireworks went off. I don't remember the end of the night (of course) but did wake up in my own bed...

Okay, okay, two months gap in a travel journal is pretty bad. I fell into the settled-routine-no-journal-writing thing in Antigua.

Well, things improve after time, and then they turn again to the same kind of state of waiting and trial.

This is a Visual Basic puzzle game I wrote back in the year 1998. It seems to run okay on Win XP, not sure about anything else. I'm releasing it as freeware! Enjoy!

The magnificent colonial buildings that line the main street through Tela used to belong to the banana giants of the past. Now they crumble quietly and you can stare into their hollow shells and perhaps still see a chandelier sparkling darkly in the gloom.
