I bought an HP Officejet 6310, and had some problems. This is the online conversation I had for 'support'

Ralpharama: Hello?
Amity: Hello Ralph
Amity: Welcome to HP Total Care for All-in-One products. My name is Amity. How may I assist you, today?
How are you doing today?
Amity: Please go ahead and describe your issue, I am looking forward to assist you.
Amity: Due to the high volume of chat support requests, you had to wait for a long time to get assistance. We

appreciate your patience and regret the inconvenience caused.
Ralpharama: Hi there, new offijet 6310, followed installation instructions, don't get very far - flashes some lights and says 'reset power'....
Amity: As I understand you are getting error lights blinking on th efront panel of teh printer,am I correct?
Ralpharama: Yes
Amity: Do you use a Surge Protector to connect the printer to the power source?
Ralpharama: Yes
Amity: Please connect the All in One directly to the main Power source without using the surge protector.
Ralpharama: Can you wait a moment?
Amity: Sure.
Ralpharama: Same thing...
Amity: Have you inserted the cartridges in the printer?
Ralpharama: Nope.
Amity: Follow the steps below to power cycle your all-in-one:

1. Verify that the unit is switched on. Unplug the all-in-one from power.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Plug in the power cable only.
4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times.
5. On the third time after plugging the unit into power and check the functionality.
Ralpharama: I don't quite understand. I unplug the allinone, okay. Then how do I 'plug in the power cable only'?
Amity: Now plug back the power cable to the wall outlet.
Ralpharama: Okay...
Ralpharama: I think I understand, please wait a moment
Amity: Please, let me know when you are done with above mentioned work steps, I'll stand by for your response.
Ralpharama: Okay, thanks.
Amity: Let me know if you are getting any error message?
Ralpharama: No error messages yet
Amity: Now install the cartridges inside teh printer by removing the protective tape.
Ralpharama: Okay, hang on
Ralpharama: No, message is back. Perhaps I misunderstood your instructions. I thought I was supposed to unplug the allinone, wait 30 secs, then plug in, unlug, wait 30 secs, unplug, wait 30 secs, then plug in again? After that the same message appeared...
Amity: Let us reset the printer.
Ralpharama: How?
Amity: 1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on.

2. Press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.

Continue holding until it displays Semi Full Reset message in the front panel of the All-in-One.
Ralpharama: IT IS WORKING!!!!
Amity: Great!!!!!
Ralpharama: hang on, it asked me to press power off and on...
Amity: Yes, please turn the printer off and turn it on.
Ralpharama: 'attach control panel faceplace firmly', 'check for stuck buttons', 'turn printer on and off again' message
Amity: Please perform the steps to install the printer from teh manual.
Ralpharama: The faceplate was already fitted when I bought it. I have just taken it off and pressed it back on and checked for stuck buttons... all fine. Now back to 'reset power' message
Amity: Let us power cycle the printer once:
Amity: Follow the steps below to power cycle your all-in-one:

Amity: Ralph, I appreciate your efforts to troubleshoot the issue.
Amity: I appreciate your efforts to troubleshoot the issue.
Amity: Get the printer replaced from the stores.
Ralpharama: Okay, thanks Amity. Can't replace it as it was last one in the shop, end of the line. Ah well, never mind :(
Amity: Ask the store person to arrange the same model printer for you.
Ralpharama: Perhaps, thanks anyway. Goodnight.
Amity: hank You!

Wishing you good health and all happiness.
Take care, Bye!

Printer was working fine until I changed the color ink cartridge; could not correct the problem of error message: remove blockage from cartridge (there was none), remove cardboard from cartridge (there was none), jam; sound of cartridge holder clicking side to side. ?

I have the same problem as other persons with the power reset how can i fix this,
Comment HP Officejet 6310 Chat comment by Ralpharama Hits | Last Modified 2008-12-02
There is no solution (if you have tried the steps advised in the conversation above!). You must return the printer and have it replaced, or change it for another model that doesn't have the bug.

Hi. I just got off of the phone with an HP case manager. I was ready for a refund, but he helped me and now my printer is working fine. The key is to have your Officejet 6310 plugged directly into a wall socket. The variations of power through a surge protector often cause a power shortage to the unit. The 6310 needs the 110 volts to operate. Surge protectors will sometimes rob the unit of this power. Follow these steps:
1. Unplug the power cable & ethernet/usb cable from the unit (stand alone mode). Let it sit for a minute.
2. Plug the power cable directly into a wall socket. Then plug the power cable into the 6310.
3. After it powers up, push the "Setup" button.
4. Right arrow to "2.Print Report."
5. Press "OK" button.
6. Right arrow to "4.Self-Test Report."
7. Press "OK" button.
A page should print showing alignment and color settings. Now you're back in business!

I completely agree with the voice chat comment. I just sold my 360 and bought a ps3, and that's definitely something that 360 has over ps3. There isn't much else though. www.lisem.net

HP 6310. Obviously cartrige error is nothing new to HP. I need a straight answer to "cartridge error-cartridge on right must be replaced." Cartridge is half full. Whole printer is disabled because of this. I need to have STRAIGHT reset info. I am Digital retiree. DEC engineers would have this solved with a quick fix after the first several complaints.
