I searched for an answer for this for an age. When people call or text me, their names didn't show up, just their numbers, even though they were in my address book. Not all of them though - just some! Some people worked fine!
I tried deleting the contact and adding it directly from the call log or text, this didn't work. There also seemed to be some confusion over + prefixed international numbers and local 0 prefixed ones.
Nokia and Vodafone were no help at all.
Here the solution that worked for me.
1. Ensure contacts are on mass-memory.
2. Delete SIM contacts
3. Check if you have any contact twice in your address book, delete them if you do.
4. Check if you have the same number in any two or more contacts (e.g. two people from the same company might have the same number) - delete until every contact has unique numbers only.
5. Copy all contacts to your SIM (I just copied Number, not all)
Try that. It won't update previous entries, but new entries should now work fine.
Not working still? Could be that international bug. A workaround is:
List the same number twice for every contact, once in international format, and once as local, e.g.

CommentNokia N95 8GB - Contact names not showing comment by RalpharamaHits | Last Modified 2009-02-12 I'm still struggling with this actually. My phone went away for repair (different issue) and when it got back, this was happening again. I followed my own steps above, which worked last time, but this time it didn't fix it. I'm just living with it now. Very annoying!
CommentNokia N95 8GB - Contact names not showing comment by MilindHits | Last Modified 2010-03-12 My N95 8gb black is started showing different colours and became very slow too. I deleted most of the data from it. After that it stoped showing different colours but still it was very slow. I just refreshed the music player file and it stoped showing display now, what would be the problem...???
