How to get around the problem of contacts being split up on a Samsung Galaxy S2. For example, when sending a new text message, you see the same person listed several times - one for Google, one for Facebook, one for Skype etc. This also fixes the problem of not showing the correct images for contacts (or not having an image at all).
This drove me insane for a while, but here's the trick - it's not quick, but it does work:
(Before we start, backup your contacts to your SD card - Contacts->Menu->Import/Export to SD card)
First, let's assume you've added all your Google, Facebook, Phone and SIM contacts, and they're all showing in contacts. (Contacts->Menu->Contacts to display->All contacts)
(If not, add them by going to Contacts->Menu->Accounts->Add Account)
Now go into your Contacts section. Starting at the top, go to the first contact that has more than one listing/entry. Select the one that has a picture, has the correct name, or IS NOT the SIM version (to check this, select the contact, choose the edit icon at the top right, a SIM contact will display 'SIM contact' and have just a name and number).
Say you save John Smith listed three times.
1 - SIM contact 'John Smith', right name, no photo
2 - Facebook contact, 'John Smith', has right full name and a photo from FB
3 - Google contact, 'J Smith', has slightly different name, and no photo
(each contact has a little logo to indicate it's type, but if unsure you can go in and view/edit it to check)
Currently when you browse to send a new text message, for example, all three show up as options, which is annoying.
First, check the phone number of your contact exists in either the Facebook or Google entry correctly. If not, copy it from the SIM contact and add it to the Google entry.
Next delete the SIM entry for 'John Smith'. For some reason having a SIM entry for a contact sometimes causes problems - you can't join it to the contact properly and the phone will choose to use/display it (no picture) etc rather than the other entry that has all the extra details.
Ok, now select the Facebook or Google entry 'John Smith', choose Menu->Join contact. Now the phone should suggest the additional Google contact 'John Smith' at the top, but if not, then scroll down and find it. Select it and you'll be taken back to the main contact, with the extra info added in ('Contacts joined'). Now you can, if you like, choose the edit icon at the top right - you'll then see headings across the top - 'Google', 'Facebook' etc. If you're showing the wrong picture for a contact, you can go to the Facebook tab and tap the picture, you'll get an option to 'use this picture'.
You should also now join, in the same way, any Skype, WhatsApp, etc contacts to the main contact.
Note: If you have a contact that is ONLY a SIM contact, obviously, just leave it alone until you also have them as a Google or Facebook contact, then you can delete the SIM version as above.
